Wear Castings — Cone Crushers

Cone Crusher Bowl Liner: The Concave, Its Bowl, and a Clean Seat

In most cone crusher designs the concave is carried as the bowl liner — the liner seated in the bowl that forms the fixed side of the crushing chamber. We supply bowl liners for our own crushers and as compatible replacements, quoted with the mantle pairing and seat condition in mind. Bowl liners are general catalogue lines — not recorded against the HP sizes and not recorded against the GP series.

Bowl liner, concave — one part, two names

Buyers meet this part under both names, and the overlap causes real ordering mistakes. In the catalogue, the concave is the wear liner itself; the bowl liner is that liner as fitted in the bowl assembly — the bowl being the large frame component that carries it and threads or clamps into the crusher's adjustment system. When you order, the part number decides what ships; when you describe the job, what matters is whether you need the liner alone or liner-plus-bowl work. This page covers the liner in its assembly context: seating, backing and the bowl-side checks that decide whether a new liner survives its first week.

Why the seat decides the liner's life

A bowl liner transmits crushing load into the bowl through its seat. If the seat is worn, scored or packed with old backing material, the new liner rocks microscopically under load — and manganese that can move will crack. Before fitting, the seat should be cleaned to metal, checked for high spots and damage, and the liner backed according to the machine's practice. If your bowl seat or the bowl itself is damaged, the parts programme covers bowls and upper frame components within crusher spare parts. The recorded position differs by item: bowl components are recorded for the HP400 — and not recorded against the GP series; the upper frame line on record belongs to a GP-series machine (the GP220), not to the HP sizes; and bowl liners themselves are general catalogue lines, not recorded against the HP sizes and not recorded against the GP series — the only GP lines on record are the GP220 upper frame and the GP220 top bearing, neither of which is a bowl liner.

Profile and pairing

The bowl liner's profile is half of the chamber. Liners are supplied in the standard profile range — coarse through extra-fine — and must pair with the mantle profile actually fitted. Mixing a new bowl liner against a half-worn mantle gives a chamber that is neither the old profile nor the new one, and product gradation shows it within a shift. For planned work we recommend quoting the mantle and concave as a set; for damage replacement, send the profile and condition of the surviving liner so the replacement restores the intended geometry. The bowl liner, the mantle and the concave named in this paragraph are general catalogue lines: the liner is not recorded against the HP sizes and not recorded against the GP series, and no mantle or concave line is recorded against the HP sizes or the GP series.

Ordering bowl liners

Give us the crusher model, chamber designation and the original part number from the liner or manual; dimensioned photographs resolve most remaining doubt. Liners are identified against the model, chamber and part number before dispatch, and supplied as a specified pair when ordered as part of a matched set. Minimum order 1 piece, confirmed with your quotation. Lead time is confirmed per quotation — common lines typically within 15 workdays in peak season — with FOB, EXW, CIF or FCA shipment and T/T or L/C payment. If you are rebuilding the bowl assembly rather than only relining it, list the whole job on one enquiry and we will quote liner, bowl components and hardware together — each identified against the model and part number: bowl components are the line recorded against the HP400 and are not recorded against the GP series, while the liner and hardware are supplied as general catalogue lines — liner and hardware are not recorded against the HP sizes and are not recorded against the GP series, whose only recorded lines are the GP220 upper frame and the GP220 top bearing.

Scope of this page: the liner in its assembly context — bowl, seat and backing. The concave as a wear part in its own right (grades, profiles, failure modes) is covered on the concave page.

Bowl-side wear beyond the liner

Because the bowl liner is the bowl's sacrificial surface, its condition at change-out reports on the assembly behind it. Uneven liner wear around the circumference points to feed distribution — a chamber fed from one side wears in an arc, and no liner grade corrects a feed problem. Wear concentrated at the liner's top suggests the chamber is being asked to crush feed too coarse for its profile; wear at the discharge zone with a healthy top suggests the setting has been run closed against a worn mantle for too long. Each pattern has a corrective action cheaper than the next liner: a feed arrangement change, a profile change, or a matched-set change-out discipline. When you send the outgoing liner's story with your enquiry — photographs and the tonnes it achieved — the bowl liner you receive is specified against the real chamber behaviour: it is supplied as a general catalogue line, not recorded against the HP sizes and not recorded against the GP series, and the bowl behind it stays out of the repair budget for another campaign.
