Wear Castings — Cone Crushers

Cone Crusher Mantle: The Moving Half of the Crushing Chamber

The mantle is the wear liner mounted on the cone crusher's head — the moving surface that, driven in its gyratory motion, crushes rock against the concave. We cast and supply manganese mantles for our own cone crushers and as compatible replacement mantles matched by model and part number.

What the mantle does, and how it wears

Inside the chamber, the mantle's profile and the concave's profile together define the crushing cavity: feed enters at the top, is nipped and re-nipped as it travels down, and exits at the discharge opening. Wear is never even. High-impact, coarse-feed chambers wear the mantle's lower bell hardest; fine chambers polishing abrasive feed wear the parallel zone. Reading that pattern at change-out is free engineering information — it tells you whether the chamber profile still suits the feed, and it is why we ask where your last mantle wore when you order the next one.

Profiles and materials

Mantles are cast in manganese steel, with the grade for each part confirmed against its catalogue entry at quotation, and supplied in the chamber profile your crusher runs: coarse, medium, fine or extra-fine, matching standard through short-head chamber conversions. Manganese earns its keep by work-hardening under impact, so grade selection follows duty: a secondary chamber crushing shot granite hardens its liners very differently from a tertiary chamber on recycled feed. Tell us the crusher model, chamber, feed rock and the life you got from the last set; the quotation will confirm the grade and profile we recommend rather than silently duplicating the previous order.

Single mantle, or a matched set?

A mantle can be changed alone, and for mid-life damage — a crack, a localised failure — that is the right call. But when the wear is general, changing only the mantle pairs a new profile against a worn concave: the chamber geometry is half-new, setting control suffers, and the new mantle wears into the old profile's shape. For planned change-outs we recommend the mantle and concave set, specified together by size, chamber profile and part number. Our guide on when to replace mantle and concave gives the measurable triggers for that decision.

Fit confirmed by identification

Compatible mantles are identified against the original part number for the machine model quoted before dispatch. Backing compound practice, seating condition of the head, and the state of the locking arrangement decide whether a correct mantle performs correctly — if the head seat is damaged, say so on the enquiry and we will advise on the head and spares side at the same time. Minimum order 1 piece and lead time are both confirmed per quotation, typically within 15 workdays in peak season for common profiles. Shipments FOB, EXW, CIF or FCA; payment T/T or L/C.

Storage and handling: protecting the next set

A mantle's working life begins before it is fitted. Manganese castings stored outdoors on bare ground collect damage at the seat and bore that no amount of careful fitting fully erases; a set stored under cover, seat protected, part number legible, goes on the head as the drawing intended. On arrival, check the casting against the delivery note and the part number ordered, and inspect the seat surfaces before the old liner comes off — discovering a handling mark at that moment costs a conversation, while discovering it with the crusher open costs a shift. When the old mantle comes off, photograph its wear before it leaves the chamber area: top, middle and bottom zones, with a note of the tonnes it crushed. That photograph, sent with the next enquiry, is worth more than any catalogue description of your duty — it is how the next set's grade and profile get chosen on evidence instead of habit.

Send us your part number or drawing

Quotes are prepared against your model, part number or dimension drawing. Minimum order is 1 piece on most catalogue parts — like the current lead time, it is confirmed with your quotation (typically within 15 workdays in peak season and about one month in the off-season).
