What the pitman does
The pitman is driven at its top by the eccentric shaft and guided at its bottom by the toggle mechanism, a combination that gives the jaw its elliptical motion — forward at the top of the stroke to nip the feed, and a discharge-assisting movement at the bottom. The swing jaw plate is bolted to the pitman's face, so every crushing load the plate meets passes into the pitman body. It is, in effect, the working arm of the primary crusher: the component that converts drive power into reduction, thousands of times an hour, under the full impact of the largest feed in the plant. Our guide to jaw crusher parts and their functions walks through the pitman's place in that component chain in full.
How pitmans get damaged
Pitmans rarely wear out on their own schedule; they are usually damaged by something upstream. The classic route is plate discipline: once jaw plate teeth are worn flat and wear breaks through toward the plate's back, the pitman face behind the plate becomes the wear surface, and a plate problem becomes an assembly problem. Tramp iron events load the pitman through the toggle seat, and fatigue cracking at the seats and ribs is the long-term risk on high-hour machines. The economical protection is boring but effective — change plates on condition, keep the toggle plate as the chamber's designed fuse rather than strengthening it, and inspect the pitman face at every plate change, while the inspection costs nothing.
Pitman assemblies, supplied complete
The catalogue lists the pitman as a pitman assembly for jaw crushers — the moving jaw supplied as an assembly unit rather than a bare casting. Assembly-level supply suits the way pitman work actually happens: the crusher is already open for a plate or chamber job, the removed unit can be assessed as a whole, and the replacement goes in complete instead of being built up piece by piece in the chamber. Pitman assemblies sit in the jaw crusher parts programme alongside the plates, cheek-side components and adjustment parts they work with, and they are supplied for our own jaw crushers as standard lines and for other machines as replacement assemblies identified against the original part number or a dimension drawing.
Ordering a pitman assembly
Identification starts with the crusher model and the original part number; where documents are lost, dimensions from the removed pitman and photographs of its faces and seats provide the working route, and we will confirm identification before anything is cast or machined. Minimum order is 1 piece, confirmed with your quotation, as is the lead time — stock is checked against daily-updated inventory, and cast-to-order assemblies carry their production time on the quotation. Shipment on FOB, EXW, CIF or FCA terms; payment by T/T or L/C. Certificates available upon request. If the enquiry is part of a wider chamber rebuild, list the plates and adjustment components on the same message and the whole job is quoted together, identified line by line.

Order a pitman assembly against your crusher model
Send the crusher model and the original part number; where documents are lost, dimensions from the removed pitman and photographs of its faces and seats give the working identification route, confirmed before anything is cast or machined. Minimum order is 1 piece, confirmed with your quotation, as is the lead time (typically within 15 workdays in peak season and about one month in the off-season).
